My Adventures

Peace Corps Questions!

Good Morning Everyone! So I wanted to do a quick update on my life before I started my post. Everyone has gotten into the new school year pretty well. Berry has made some new friends at his daycare in the two year olds room and is doing really well there. Horatio loves his job and I am so proud of him for everything he does day in and day out. I have been doing a lot of new projects which I hope to share. One such project starting in October is a podcast about disability technology! Keep your eyes peeled for that. I am also proud to say that we have some fun pictures coming soon so check out our instgram (markthewizard69) to see some amazing family pictures.

So the other day I was watching one of my favorite movies of all time, Dirty Dancing. In the opening Baby, a sweetheart talks about joining the peace corps. I was then decied to look up more about the peace corps.

The corps is a long term volunteer gig that really is not for everyone. You get placed for 2 years in a foreign country with little language understanding. You learn a lot about helping people but you also have to give up a lot of family time and just learning how to cope with being alone. In an effort to understand more I interviewed a recuriter for the peace corps.

Me: What programs are offered for people wanting to join?

Peace Corps Recruiter: We have anything from education to business. We really are inclusive for most majors. Or anyone! As the Peace Corps we try to do our best to help in the areas we are in and most palces need help in many different areas so we look for many different types of people.

Me: What is something that is looked for in peace corp candidates?

Peace Corps Recruiter: Someone who is willing to learn and have a need to help people. We also look for a certain level of maturity and professionalism.

Me: What is advice for people looking to join?

Peace Corps Recruiter: Look for the program that fits you best and take your time with the applications. Application should have a tailored resume for the position you are trying to apply for. For the application process you position statement should be honest with the challenges. Interview will all take place over skype with the placement officer, but be professional.

Me: What programs would be right for me, a puppet?

Peace Corps Recruiter:… None really. It would be bad for you felt and you would have a hard time doing the work needed to be done. You would not do well as a puppet. My advice is to take a non-puppet buddy.

Me: Thank you for your time! We appreciate you time.

So as you can see I do not think the peace corp is the right choice for me, that being said there is never any harm in looking for yourself. It can be scary and rewarding. Take a peak and tell me what you think below!
